[IKO Commercial](https://www.rooferscoffeeshop.com/post/iko-commercial-introduces-armourcool-sa-hd-cap?ref=ridgereport.news) opened September with a low-slope product that hits three crew priorities at once: cool/reflective granules, peel-and-stick productivity, and no open flame on the cap. From Toronto on Sept. 1, 2026, the company announced [ArmourCool® SA – HD Cap](https://www.iko.com/comm/press-release/iko-commercial-introduces-armourcool-sa-hd-cap/?ref=ridgereport.news) — a reflective self-adhered commercial cap sheet now available across Canada.

For shops running torch or adhesive cap schedules in Canadian markets, the sellable change is application method and reflectivity in one SKU — not a vague “new cool roof.” Read the limits: the release grounds availability in Canada and CSA A123.23 Type C, Grade 1\. It does not claim U.S. distribution.

Why it matters

- Low-slope crews gain a self-adhered HD cap option when cool-roof and install speed both matter.
- Stay inside IKO’s published limits—do not overclaim performance beyond the data sheet.
- Ask yards for ArmourCool SA HD Cap availability before you write it into recover specs.

## What IKO put on the record

ArmourCool SA – HD Cap is positioned as a reflective peel-and-stick cap for commercial roofs that need high reflectivity, flame-free application, and system flexibility. IKO’s stated benefits:

- **High reflectivity:** High-solar-reflectance granules embedded in the surface to support energy-saving performance and UV protection.
- **Flame-free application:** Self-adhering underside with a removable silicone-treated release film — application without an open flame.
- **Versatile with IKO bases:** Compatible with various IKO base sheets for commercial system specs.

Kyle Linhares, Product Manager, Commercial Canada at IKO North America, said in the company release: “ArmourCool SA – HD Cap gives roofing professionals another versatile option when specifying commercial roofing systems. It offers the flexibility needed to meet the demands of today’s commercial roofing projects, helping our customers specify with confidence.”

Compliance language in the same release: satisfies CSA A123.23 Type C, Grade 1; available across Canada.

## What low-slope crews actually gain

- **Flame-free cap day:** Where torch bans, occupancy restrictions, or insurer rules squeeze hot work, a silicone-release SA cap is an ops path — not a marketing slogan. Confirm substrate prep and base sheet pairing per IKO instructions before you rewrite the means-and-methods section.
- **Cool/reflective bid language:** High-solar-reflectance granules give estimators a concrete product attribute for energy or cool-roof conversations. Tie claims to the published product data; don’t invent CRRC numbers the Sept. 1 release doesn’t list.
- **SA productivity:** Peel-and-stick can compress labor versus mopped or torched caps when weather and deck conditions cooperate. Build the takeoff around real crew rate on SA — not torch history — and watch first-day learning curve on film pull and roll staging.

## Limits — don’t overclaim

The Ridge Report will not stretch this launch past the source. IKO’s Sept. 1 materials say **available across Canada** and cite **CSA A123.23 Type C, Grade 1**. They do not announce U.S. nationwide availability in that release. If a U.S. PM asks for ArmourCool SA – HD Cap on a Texas or Midwest low-slope, verify branch stock and published U.S. approvals separately — do not assume Canada = U.S. SKU.

Also unspecified in the press text: exact reflectance/emittance numbers, warranty terms, and the full base-sheet compatibility matrix. Pull those from IKO Commercial published data sheets before you put them on a submittal.

> Flame-free + reflective SA is the crew story. Canada + CSA A123.23 Type C Grade 1 is the availability story. Keep them separate on the bid.

The Ridge Report take: for Canadian commercial low-slope shops, this is a real specifying option when hot work is constrained and cool/reflective is on the owner’s punch list. Train estimators to pair it with the correct IKO base, document CSA Type C Grade 1 on the submittal, and refuse to promise U.S. availability until IKO or the local distributor puts it in writing.
