Product Spotlight: TAMKO HailGuard’s System Hail Warranty
Feb 27, 2026: TAMKO’s HailGuard sells Class 4 plus a system hail warranty. The bid work is availability, Complete-system components, and not over-promising the warranty.
TAMKO launched HailGuard shingles on February 27, 2026, out of Joplin, with a claim that matters more on the estimate table than on the booth: an asphalt shingle system with a hail warranty, not just another UL 2218 Class 4 badge.
That distinction is the product. Class 4 is already crowded. HailGuard is sold as Class 4 by UL 2218, with TAMKO’s own “Beyond Class 4” testing language — a marketing term, not a higher UL class — plus the HailGuard Extended Limited System Warranty for hail-related coverage when the system rules are met. As of March 2026, TAMKO calls it the first and only asphalt shingle system with that kind of hail warranty. Read the warranty PDF before you promise a homeowner anything about deductibles or insurance discounts.
What crews and estimators actually need
ImpactCore is TAMKO’s name for the polymer-modified asphalt and fiberglass mat stack meant to manage hail impact stress in the shingle. On the job, the sellable specs that show up in the press kit are concrete enough to bid against:
- UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating
- HailGuard Extended Limited System Warranty for hail (terms govern; hailstone size and system requirements apply — TAMKO materials cite coverage framed around verified hail up to 3 inches in product FAQ language)
- 160 mph WindGuard extended wind warranty when installed as part of a qualifying TAMKO Complete system with required starter and hip-and-ridge
- Cold-weather installation flexibility down to 25°F (follow TAMKO application instructions)
- Available now in select regions — confirm yard stock before you write it into a storm book
Alex Hines, TAMKO’s VP of Sales and chief revenue officer, put the pitch in contractor English: homeowners hear “Class 4” constantly, but the rating alone doesn’t answer what happens after the storm. Chris Freeborg, VP and chief marketing, communications, and product development officer, framed ImpactCore as absorbing impact differently than traditional options and tied the launch to contractor reputation, not only curb appeal.
How this sits next to StormFighter FLEX and Class 4 rivals
StormFighter FLEX already gave TAMKO a Class 4, cold-install polymer story and a 2025 Product of the Year win. HailGuard’s wedge is the system hail warranty and the “Built for Hail” positioning aimed at spring storm season. Against GAF Timberline UHDZ with UltraMat and other Class 4 laminates, the conversation shifts from mat technology alone to what the manufacturer will put in writing after a hail claim — and what components you must install to keep that writing valid.
For independents in hail corridors, the operational checklist is short: verify regional availability, map the Complete system component list into your takeoff, train estimators not to promise insurance premium discounts (TAMKO says discounts are not guaranteed), and keep the limited warranty text with the file. The product is new as of late February 2026. Treat the first few jobs like a controlled launch, not a default SKU swap across every storm lead.
