SESCO Goes Coatings Under New Ownership — Another Granules Shop Chases Restoration SKUs
New Albany’s SESCO, now SESCO Roofing Products LLC after an investment-group buy, launches silicone and acrylic coatings, mastics, spray foam, and accessories (Sept. 2026).
Specified Equipment Systems Co. — SESCO — has been acquired by an investment group and will operate as SESCO Roofing Products LLC, expanding from granules and equipment into commercial roof restoration materials. Roofing Contractor reported the move on Sept. 2, 2026. The New Albany, Ind., manufacturer is keeping its established granules and equipment lines while launching silicone and acrylic roof coatings, plus mastics, spray foam, and accessories.
For commercial shops living on recoveries and restorations, that is the headline: another Midwestern materials house is packaging a fuller restoration catalog under new capital.
What changed in 2026
- Ownership: Acquired by an investment group; legal/operating name is now SESCO Roofing Products LLC.
- HQ / base: New Albany, Indiana — manufacturer of roofing materials and equipment; mines aggregate used in coating applications.
- New SKUs: Silicone and acrylic roof coatings, mastics, spray foam, and accessories, alongside existing granules and equipment.
- Stated goal: Give contractors, distributors, specifiers, and building owners a more complete source for restoration and maintenance materials.
“This is an exciting new chapter for SESCO,” said Matt Clarke, vice president of SESCO Roofing Products, in the trade report — framing the coatings push as building on existing history while expanding as a coatings manufacturer.
Legacy context (keep it short)
Former CEO Chris Lockwood said the sale lets the SESCO brand and Lockwood family legacy continue after 39 years. Trade coverage notes the company started in portable installation/repair equipment, began mining granules in 1990 (Rainbow and Buff), expanded repair products in 2008, and added Snow White granules in 2012 as reflective systems gained demand. That history matters only as proof of contractor channel roots — the 2026 story is ownership plus coatings.
Contractor / distributor angle
Restoration specs are getting crowded. Silicone and acrylic lines from a granules-and-equipment house change three practical things for estimators and warehouse managers:
- One-vendor restoration carts: If distributors stock SESCO coatings next to SESCO granules and tools, punch-list and warranty paperwork can tighten — or get messier if cure times and primers do not match what your crews already know.
- Spec fights: Building owners shopping recoveries will ask for silicone vs. acrylic by default. Have your substrate checklist and wet-film discipline written down before a new brand hits the yard.
- Foam + mastic accessories: Spray foam and mastics in the same catalog as coatings is a signal they want the full repair ticket, not just the topcoat gallon.
What the Sept. 2 report does not disclose: buyer identity beyond “investment group,” purchase price, plant capacity, or national distribution footprint. Treat availability as TBD until your distributor confirms SKUs and lead times.
The Ridge Report take: file this under “materials roll-up meets restoration demand.” When a granules shop adds silicone/acrylic under new ownership, your next bid meeting should ask which coating chemistry is approved on which substrate — not which press release sounded bigger.
